Week 5 reflecting

This week on Tuesday we presented our Assignment 2 pieces to the class. It was interesting seeing other peoples take on the project. I liked that some people had a theme throughout the three videos. I particularly liked the episodic videos that one group had made. This wasn’t even a thought that our group had. Although I am quite proud of how our videos ended up turning out.

On Friday we started to brainstorm our ideas for the proposal and group project. I came in with a very specific idea that I wanted to create individually as I thought this was how this project was meant to turn out. But my idea quickly became more of a group project. Which did make me disappointed as I had spent a lot of time trying to plan this out by myself. I thought the assignment was more of an individual project but we worked as a group in the same theme. But I’m sure as a group, we can work it out.

On Friday we also watched some short documentaries. I enjoyed all of the films we watched, but I particularly liked Kayla and the documentary about the sneakers, of which I forgot the name! I think that Kayla was particularly beautifully shot. Each shot seemed to be perfectly well thought out, which resulted in a great and beautiful film. The tone was very relaxed and beautiful too. It didn’t feel rushed or upbeat. Even though upbeat is generally something I look for in a short video. This seemed very calm. I liked how it was about a transgender boy, but the film didn’t follow the journey of transitioning, which is generally what you would assume. But it was just Kayla talking about their feelings and life, which I thought was an interesting take.

The other video that I really enjoyed was the one about the sneaker throwing. I absolutely loved how they collaborated with anonymous people to create the video. I especially thought the phone interviews were an awesome idea. Then mixing it with donated video and animation, I thought was extremely clever!
