Week Four Reflection

This week on Tuesday we did some interview practice in groups. I think our group found it most difficult to find a space where there wasn’t too much noise that interfered with our audio. We eventually found a place that was relatively quiet, but then halfway through filming a dance class started nearby and the audio was then ruined! But when editing I used mostly the lapel microphone audio, which seemed to get rid of most of the noise and worked relatively well. Our idea for the interview was to lock of the camera in one spot and then interview each other in different spots in that frame. I wasn’t really sure if that was going to work very well, but we ended up doing it and it didn’t turn out too badly. Through this exercise and other exercises I have done like this, I think I have realised more and more how important it is to speak your mind and express your opinions. I also tried really hard to create depth of field in the shot, but had some difficulty. But after asking how to, I have figured it out and will definitely do it next time!

Heres a link to the video that I edited of the interviews.

This week I also went out and shot some footage for our interview piece for the group assignment. I had lots of fun filming, as I was filming my godmother, who I get along with very well. Once I had got home I had realised I didn’t have quite as much footage as I had originally thought. So what I learnt is that you should shoot as much as you can, not just the bare minimum. I have been able to edit this video well and am happy with result. But it would have been better to be able to have some more footage to play around with.

This week I watched a lot of 60 second docs on Youtube. I thought this would be good research for the documentary sketches for Assignment 2. I really like how these short films are edited and I tried to emulate this kind of editing in our sketches.
