Continuing on with this idea of what occupies a space, as well as how we engage with said space, I put together some shots that strive to explore this question. In doing so, I ran into quite a few hurdles, however, proceeded with seeing what result my experiment would yield.
Unfortunately, the camera was quite “jolty” and more difficult to use than what I initially anticipated (I will look into investing in a tripod of some kind to avoid this problem in the future). As well as this, the initial song that I chose as the backdrop (see link: http://www.bensound.com/royalty-free-music/track/tomorrow) – which gives quite a different sense of atmosphere to the song that is currently the backdrop, as below – was also jumping once in Premier and, thus, I needed to select another song.
Nonetheless, this was a worthwhile investigation in terms of looking at and around a space through the camera lens and how this can be articulated.
I then took this same footage, re-sequenced it, played around with colour, saturation, vibrancy etc as well as put a completely different sound with the footage to give a very different sense of atmosphere. I prefer this second attempt, particularly because the music is simply more suited to the music and I much prefer the impact that this has.
While there isn’t necessarily a “story line” per se, I edited the sequence together as though it was a part of some broader, hypothetical story, most likely (as per my imagination) about couple and their troubles. While I do prefer this second take, I really do appreciate how impact of the lack of tripod in compromising the quality of the shot so will really take this into consideration ahead of more filming.
