For the latter half of our workshop we had the opportunity to familiarise ourselves with the equipment that we would be required to use for our upcoming projects through a brief interview task between ourselves and classmates. As required in the final project itself, I isolated my focus on weaving together texts to create a more textured and sophisticated production to add greater emphasis to what was being said verbally.
I do feel as though this is something that I completed successfully and something that I’ll continue to focus on as we progress through the semester. In an age where digital technologies are so advanced and impressive, it’s highly critical to keep the masses engaged as much as possible. Our current culture and habits of media consumption necessitate that media is constantly re-invigorated, engaging and unique. Adding in additional elements of media (above the standard interview format) makes greater reference to the subject at hand and therefore adds that complexity to some level. Due to the time constraints when completing this task, however, our group was somewhat limited in collecting as diverse a range of material as what I would have ideally liked. So, therefore, while I was able to add in additional content above the standard interview format, I certainly would prefer to collate a far broader range of material in future cases.
The quality of the image was also compromised due to poor lighting conditions. It was difficult given the time constraints to find an ideal location in which this footage could best be captured. We were also shooting on a very overcast day, which further hampered our ability to achieve a high-quality image. In contrast, thankfully I was able to obtain high-quality material when interviewing Kris. I focussed heavily on bright, open spaces to capture this organic light and scouted a variety of locations to add diversity, complexity and texture to the finalised piece.
This is a good basis on which a multi-faceted interview piece can develop, however, additional elements of editing – such as sound, music, imaging and effects- will be required to fully communicate the narrative that I am trying to depict. Essentially, fundamental to this piece is articulating who Kris is at the core, what is of value to him, why and how this relates on a genuine level with the audience and myself. Social narratives like these are so important in assisting our ability to designate sense in our independent and inter-related lives.
