An additional component of the blogging work required of us in Media One is to write an ‘initiative’ post linking external ideas (or concepts that haven’t been specifically mentioned in the course) with theories and practices that have been encountered in the week’s classes. As someone who progresses more through working consistently on long-term projects, I’m therefore creating for myself an additional project outside of those necessitated by the program.
Essentially, as someone who has just moved inter-state myself, I am wanting to explore and grapple with conceptualising sense of self identify and its relationship to place. So, therefore, I thought that it would be a cool idea to document (in varrying formats) interviews between myself and those living in my building (who are willing of course), who are mostly international students.
I think this sort of project would provide great scope to reflect on the concept of self identity and purpose, as well as in developing better technical skills in various communication mediums. As a long-term endeavour (spanning over the entire duration of the semester) it also requires my focussing in on one over-arching objective, being to explore notions of self-identity and place through the interpersonal experience of conversation. In having said that, however, employing elements of the hyper attention cognitive mode is necessary in interrogating the use of several mediums and techniques throughout the project and marrying them with one another.
I’m eager to tease out in the coming week a plan of approach and to get started to identify a focal point and how my own little ‘initiative project’ can best compliment and adopt the theories and practices learnt in Media One.
