In today’s tutorial we explored the notion of sound and the technical side included in recording sound. We were asked to go out and record sounds ourselves, which forced us to focus on the best way to record sound and how to capture it in the best light. It was harder then I thought! So many factors to think about when you are recording sound that’s for sure. I didn’t how much sound really needed to be to which isolated to get the best quality possible. We recorded trams, buses, talking in small rooms and talking in a large room and compared the differences in the sound quality. Sound doesn’t differentiate between you speaking and the background noise its all equal. That’s why its so super important to make sure you have the right surroundings to capture good quality sound. Our most successful sound would have to be the tram out in the street. We really captured the sound of the tram holding it close as well as the noise of the bustling street. As I mentioned before it was difficult to get a really high quality sound but this was a very valuable and useful lesson for the future of my recordings because now I will take great care and put in the time and effort to get a clean sound and make sure my surroundings will work with me to capture this sound.
