Having successfully completed all of my shooting, editing is now the focus. While the basic continuity editing was easy enough, it is the audio that’s taking time. Going back to the screening a few weeks ago, the ‘too real’ sound was something that I was made aware of, so I had to get on top of that. Having already edited a drone sound and a kettle whistle to have a more industrially factoryish eraserheady feel to it for the Johnny Depp sections, I planned to find more of these kind of unusual sounds. I essentially wanted to always have a distinctive background noise (apart from certain times where silence could be more effective), so I did some googling. With this task, I felt pretty free to pick whatever I wanted due to the ‘it’s a dream *shrug*’ mantra that I’ve been following. This meant searching for something like ‘spaceship interior sounds’ made sense. As well as using the spaceship interior sounds I found, I also used underwater sounds for the car scenes, and a heap of white noise just here and there. Another sound that I’m very happy with is the ‘ear ringing’ sound effect that plays at the end of the dream. Now having a certain background sound throughout the piece, I now want to go back over them, and just play around with them some more.
