My final shoot for this semester was pretty successful. Like the week before, this shoot took a long time, maybe 6 hours. But after last week, this was expected, and I was never too stressed out, largely due to the preparation I had done in the extremely valuable week in between shoots. I had made sure I had a comprehensive shot list, filled with alternatives if things didn’t play out the way I wanted. Some of the early issues included making my lounge room dark in order to have more control of the light via the lite panel. After a lot of playing around, the solution came in the form of my black doona cover, which I sticky taped onto the top of the window that was letting in all of the light. This worked extremely well, as I could now control the light, and it looked as though it was nighttime – something that I was very happy with.
Other little things that maybe took more time than they were worth (regret nothing) included making deodorant look as though it was coming from a toothbrush, sticky taping towels, pillow cases and cellophane to the wall for the background, and using face paint to put the Ziggy Stardust lightning bolt onto Louis, my David Bowie.
In terms of actual shooting, things went reasonably smoothly, as I had my trusted AD/camera operator, Kiralee, back on the job. As well as shooting the remainder of my dream, I also made time to reshoot some of what I’d done last week. Some of the things I changed included the time setting, as it all now took place at night. I felt that nighttime had more of a dreamlike feel to it, and it also lowered the contrast between the red-lit scenes with Johnny Depp. I also altered the way I shot it slightly, removing some unnecessary tilts etc. So overall, this shoot went very well.
