Screening my work in class proved to be very useful. Partly due to the constructive feedback that led me to think about aspects to my project that I hadn’t been up to that stage, but also because people seemed to like it and laugh.
The main point that was brought up, and really stuck with me was some of the footage seeming too real’ for a dream sequence. The reasons for this were the contrast between the very dreamy feel of the red-lit sections and the daytime sections in the car, which resulted in the daytime sections kind of coming off as the character being pulled out of his dream, rather than it continuing. That contrast had to do with lighting, and also sound. The latter had not really been a focus for me in this project, but I now realized what a key role it had been playing, and how much I had to address it, and ultimately make it dreamier – less birds chirping etc.
Sound will now be one of my big focuses for the remainder of the semester, both in editing the current footage, and in future shoots and edits.
