I’ve started my own rough edits of each of our videos. The plan is for each of us to complete an edit of at least one of the videos to show the rest of the group in class on Wednesday. Then we’ll talk about what we like from each version that we want to include in the version we screen for our presentation.
So far, I’ve found “The Magnificent Thornbury Bowls Club” to be the easier of the two videos to edit, simply because I’m struggling to cut the dancing sequence from “Blue Moon” together. As the dance wasn’t choreographed, the action is slightly different in each take, meaning I can’t find points at which shots from different angles have action that matches one another and cuts smoothly. I’m sure there’s a way around this problem, but I haven’t quite found it yet.
There’s one shot from “The Magnificent Thornbury Bowls Club” which is a bit problematic. We decided to experiment with a shot where we start with a wide shot of Michael sitting at the table alone, zoom into show him catching the juice bottle, and then zooming back out to show Chris suddenly sitting next to Michael. While the concept for this shot was strong and doesn’t feel completely out of place with the rest of the video, it does seem really grainy compared to the shots we want to cut it next to. I’ve also noticed you can see one of the stands from a light panel in the shot, which we unfortunately didn’t notice while we were on set.
