Understanding lighting has always been a bit of a weakness for me and I’d like to change that.
Which is why when I saw that this studio, Film Light, was going to be running this semester I knew it was going to be my first preference. We’re only a week in but I know that it was the right decision, as my understanding is improving already.
In my previous classes, both here at uni and beforehand, we often only discussed lighting terms. And the times I have been shown lighting in a more technical way, it’s often a little rushed and I leave without feeling like I the knowledge I took in is firmly set in my mind. However I’ve been finding these classes a little different. Starting off using only available light rather than jumping straight into artificial lights has made it a little easier for me to talk about lighting by using the correct terms as well as give me a greater appreciation for the many different ways you can manipulate the light that’s already available.
