This week we shot both Rosie’s and Bell’s scripts with out actors. Both videos were quite different, not only because we filmed each of them on different cameras with different actors, but because Bell’s required more dialogue, while Rosie’s is a driven more by action and has no dialogue. I found that doing two projects that were quite different allowed to us to face different challenges over the two nights, but because we have become somewhat familiar with the space and the equipment we were borrowing from uni, we felt a bit more confident to handle those challenges.
We ended up having less time at the bowls club this week because the owners needed us to be out a bit earlier. Unsurprisingly, it was considerably more difficult to get out on time while still getting everything we needed. In the end, we managed to film everything we needed, however we didn’t get to spend as much time as we might have liked on the later shots as we were running out of time.
I’ve looked back through our footage, and here are some of the shots I really like.
I really like the look of the hand on the striped shirt. It looks really wonderful as the men sway on the green.
The wide of the dancing on the green has some nice symmetry with the three lights shinning down on the bowling green. The shadows they create are also kind of interesting, as each is a slightly different colour.
It was fun to play with the window into the kitchen when we were framing this shot. We had to adjust the shot a number a few times in between takes to centre it as best we could.
I think the main reason I like this shot is the colour of it. I like the red tinge to everything, the blocks of colour on the newspaper, and the way the light shine on the table behind Michael’s hand. I also like the tiny blur of his shoulder in the corner that is almost unnoticeable while you’re watching the clip.
I’m quite happy with what our group has filmed. Hopefully it will all cut together well, and I’m really excited to see the final product.
