This week we presented our idea to the class and as well as a panel. We went through our idea, some of the photos we took and location and played “Blue Moon” by The Chromatics which are thinking of using as the song for our project.
The feedback we got was mostly positive. The panel seemed to like our idea, and particularly the simplicity of the story as well as the location.
Listening to all the presentations and feedback that everyone got from the panel, there were a few tips that I think would be really applicable to our project too as well as projects I might work on in the future.
Some of these points include:
- Focusing on cinematography can interrupt the actor’s performance by acting to the camera, so be aware of how you film around them. This can be particularly hard on unexperienced actors
- Even if not demonstrated on screen, actors need to know what they’re motivation for their performance. You might allow them to come up with their own backstory if you don’t already have one for them already
- Dialogue is “icing on the cake”, stories are really told through performance and cinematography
- Don’t overwrite the script
I don’t think we’re at risk of the last one at this point, but I think all of them are important to remember during pre-production as well as when we’re on set.
