This morning’s lectorial introduced us to the concept of work attachments.
What work attachments areĀ not:
- internships
- work experience
What work attachments are:
- flexible
- opportunities to network and gain skills
In order to graduate, we’ll need to complete 80 hours of work attachment (which may be across multiple attachments) supervised by a media professional. While it doesn’t have to be completed until the end of our final semester, we’re discussing it now as attachments can be difficult to find.
I’ve started drafting a list of the places I’d most like to complete my attachment, and the list gets slightly more realistic the further you go down. I know that a lot of this places may not be interested in taking on a work attachment student, but there’s always a chance I might have a successful application. I also know that this attachment could help set me up for the beginning of my career. I want to make connections with people who are currently in the areas within media that I’m interested in. Why waste this opportunity to gain experience in an area I don’t want to stay in when I could have a chance of working with people whose work I throughly enjoy and respect?
