WK3 LECTORIAL: Guests a thrice

This week’s lectorial session consisted of three guest lecturers/presentations. So imma’ break it down into three parts.

[Part I] Anne Lennox w/ Copyrights
Anne gave the class a seriously in-depth look into the world of copyrights, a rabbit hole of legislation and legal actions. Covering everything from the basics of Copyright 101 to areas of; the rights of ownership, duration of copyrights, moral rights, infringement, fair dealings, music copyright and so on. Learning of these vast areas of copyright law was truly helpful as up and coming media students/practitioners, as these are the kinds of dealings we will have to consider and face when making public and professional pieces of work. Overall, Anne’s presentation was concise, insightful and informative.
~ The discussions that fell across the room during the presentation were also interesting. People were truly shocked and amazed at some of the stories/legal battles that have taken place in the media/entertainment business thus far.

[Part II] Kyla Brettle w/ Exploring the Unknown
Our second presenter was Kyla, a specialist in sound documentation/production. Spoken truly and honestly, her presentation and story telling was quite interesting and motivating – evident in her passion for her work – again, inspiring. Having talked about entering different and new worlds, here are a some of her tips for doing just that:
– explore something you don’t know
– observe on location
– observe yourself
– become one with the technology you own/use
– let a story and subject evolve
– question motivations and assumptions
– remember that it is a live relationship
Seriously though, Kyla was/is a woman of great professional and worldly wisdom.

[Part III] Paul Richard w/ Production and Course Advice
So the main concept I gathered from Paul’s presentation is that, organisation is a must, must. Especially when working on set for any media production. Hearing of some cringe-worthy stories of those who were clumsy and unorganised while on set, helped to solidify and sear this concept into my brain. But with this however, flexibility while working is also vital, as unforeseen issues can arise when they are (obviously) no expected or wanted. Further, Paul also went over what is expected of us and our work in the future of this course.
