SELFY P INSP.
Having watched many, many teen movies, I’ve become somewhat fascinated with the mise en scene of the protagonist’s (or in Regina George’s case, antagonist) bedroom. How the artefacts within the room ultimately offers another element to the audience, in getting them to understand the character on a deeper level. Or how little clues/hints within these settings can expose unknown details of a character’s identity/personality/life. So here are a few of my favourite teen-movie bedrooms.
Regina George (Mean Girls)
Okay, so this may not be one of my favourite
teen bedroom, but this shot shows a glimpse of RG that the audience of the film doesn’t quite see through the narrative aspect of the movie. The poster representing The Strokes. WHO WOULD HAVE GUESSED THAT REGINA FRIGIN GEORGE WOULD APPRECIATE THE STROKES. Good one T-Fey.
Cliff Pantone (Bring It On)
Band posters, cassettes, records, amps, a keyboard. It’s obvious that this guy loves his music. I mean, look at him, it an absolute state of bliss going hard at the g-tar. There is also a skateboard deck. He must also like skateboarding.
Oliver Tate (Submarine)
I mainly like this room is because of its cluster. Full of objects, books and artefacts that all reflect on the character of Oliver. Like himself, his room is a crazy nonsense. However his room also juxtaposes his personality. His room being this unorganised space and himself being an over-thinking and plan-a-head kinda kid.
Juno MacGuff (Juno)
Another, busy, clustered and messy room. But this dishevelled bedroom of Juno’s really does reflect her confusion in adolescence and teenage pregnancy. I think her room with no real continuity also speaks for her wacky, care and spirit-free nature. I also lover her burger phone.
Andie Walsh (Pretty in Pink)
Andie’s room is extremely filled with pink (an obvs play on the film’s title), but also materials, sewing kits, design sketches and artefacts of fashions. Her incredible love for clothes, and making of her own attire is easily seen from within the walls of her room. And with all of her creativity and love for fashion leads to that all too famous prom dress.
