Exhibition

Monday 8th May

Shot 13/03/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot one morning at Darebin Parklands. The colour of the water is one that is unlikely to be reappear for quite some time.

Shot 06/04/17 (iPhone 7)
– On an afternoon walk around Fairfield. The clouds are particularly distinct. Shot after watching a Terrence Malick film (To The Wonder) and becoming interested in camera movement.

Tuesday 9th May

Murrindindi Conservation Reserve

All shot 15/04/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot during a trip to Toolangi State Forest.

Wednesday 10th May

Shot 17/04/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot outside Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk at Toolangi State Forest.
– After seeing Godard’s Every Man For Himself at Melbourne Cinematheque, I was blown away by the opening title sequence; a spiral shot of clouds. I think about this shot all the time, and it has been very influential on my more recent work. I think a low-angle spiral shot works best in a natural context for clouds, trees, mountains; things that are epic in nature.

Thursday 11th May

Shot 02/05/17
– Shot at Darebin Parklands. Again, inspired by Lubezki’s cinematography in To The Wonder. Not trying to replicate it though; I like moments like this to be more drawn out.

Darebin Creek

All shot 02/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot at the Darebin Creek. I’ve always had a fascination with the way water (and the creek in particular) moves. The static nature of the camera allow the shots to breathe.

Shot 02/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Another spiral shot, this time I made more of an effort to capture the clouds as well as the trees.

Trains

Shot 02/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– A peaceful setting disrupted by the manmade structures that were never invited. A political spectrum divided like never before. Do we have the capacity to set aside our differences and create progress?

Saturday 13th May

All shot 03/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Parked my car on Roseberry Avenue (Preston), and took photos of clouds from different angles.
– Clouds have recently become a greater focus for me. I have come to appreciate its awe-inspiring beauty and magical state.
– Clouds_3 is probably my favourite shot to look at thus far.

Sunday 14th May

All shot 05/05/17 (iPhone 7)

All shot 08/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot after watching James Benning’s Ten Skies. Patience is a virtue.

Thursday 18th May

Shot 15/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Shot at Hopetoun Falls in the Otways during a recent trip to Colac. I decided to go there after seeing it in a book, 250 Victorian Waterfalls, that my friend kindly lent to me for the trip. The image in the book looked surreal and I had to see it in person.
– This was the only shot I took of the Falls on my iPhone, the rest (mostly from the river level) were taken with a Camcorder.

All shot 16/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– After driving on Lavers Hill Rd for (at least) an hour, I took a right-turn to an entrance that wasn’t a property (which was a rarity). I’m glad I acted upon my instinct, as the view was incredible.
– There was no reception available, so I’m not exactly sure where this was, nor do I know where I was looking over.

Shot 16/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Woodfire in Colac.
– I believe there is nothing more entertaining than watching a fire.

Colac

Shot 16/05/17 (iPhone 7)
– Taken on a walk around the 3-acre property I was residing at. More footage was taken on a Camcorder.
– Was shot late afternoon (around 5PM), so the footage has a grainy quality to it that I quite like.

Thursday 25th May

Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk

Shot 17/04/16 (iPhone 7)
– Shot during my trip to Toolangi State Forest.
– A new approach: instead of presenting the shots individually, show them together.
– Rules: 1) No editing of each shot’s length 2) Either use the shot, or don’t (some didn’t make the cut) 3) Show in chronological order.
