This week we had our last zoom meeting as a group and went over any last questions we had about the research project with Robin which for me was turning out to be a lot bigger than I planned, despite actually trying to make it smaller but cutting some films I originally planned on watching. I decided to get rid of the most recent Black Christmas remake that was released last year as it only includes one repetitive camera set up of the same shot shown three different ways which was the closest thing to POV the film had and doesn’t actually follow the story of the original and the 2006 remake it only includes a handful of references but other than that is a whole new story about sorority girls being attacked which made me question why the studio called it a Black Christmas remake when they could of marketed it as an entirely different and new film. I also decided to cut the 2007 Rob Zombie remake of Halloween due to time but also due to how much people compare the original to the 2018 remake/sequel in terms of quality and suspense and I thought that’d make a more interesting analysis I also had to cut the two My Bloody Valentine films as I only own the 1981 original and was unable to find the 2009 remake in any form to watch or buy which made analysis difficult when i haven’t been able to see the remake previously.
Over half of the films have been watched and I’ve started to make some progress with the actual writing of the piece in between watching classes and completing my other assessments for introduction to cinema studies and textual crossings: literary adaptation and it seems like I’ll be able to do more than the minimum requirement of eight hundred words which I always strive to do but sometimes depending on the assessment it can be difficult.
