I’m not too sure how legit this article is, but it was on Google Scholar, so #YOLO. Robert Trexler (2004) Here’s one for Harry, National Catholic Register. This article interviews John Granger about a book he authored called Looking for God in Harry Potter. So John Granger is basically an extreme Christian, the article touches on the brief background of Grangers beliefs and how he wouldn’t let his daughter read the books. Granger, has the same education as Rowling, both holding honours degrees in classical languages (Greek and Latin) and classical literature. He claims that this is the reason he is able to see something other readers don’t. What did he find? “He saw J.K. Rowling’s adaptation and application of themes from great literature as influenced by Christian imagery, literary tropes and symbols.” I didn’t find this article very useful, if anything, it was confusing. The conclusion reads like this, “Offering a great deal of persuasion and not a hint of rancor, this book can — and should — be read by people on both sides of the Harry Potter debate.” which kind of goes against the start of the article. So I’m slightly perplexed.
