Capturing Creativity Week 8

This weeks classes was full of presentation. In our Monday class, we all presented out Street Art Films. A lot of the films were really well filmed and well edited together. A lot of people had used interesting shots and backdrops in order to engage the audience, whilst others got extremely lucky with their Vox Pops and had fantastic responses to work with. Our entire class consisted of these presentations before Louise came and spoke to us individually about how our progress was going.

Dusty and I could not stay for the entire duration of the class as we needed to go to North Melbourne in order to film the artist Dusty had chosen, Spencer Lai. Spencer was an extremely interesting person, their practice was very vibrant and playful, something which is quite reflective of Dusty as well. Seeing both Spencer and Dusty interact with each other was really interesting, because I felt that Dusty’s media style and Spencer’s work would work together very well in order to give a representation of Spencer. Spencer’s work interacts with the fashion world, and their practice usually is a commentary on high fashion, what should or shouldn’t be worn, or seen.

During the interview I was operating the 5DMKII and the 6D, and brought the pink velvet backdrop whilst Dusty conducted the interview and monitored the audio levels. There was a slight hiccup with the Zoom recording, but Dusty managed to get great sound from the 5DMKII, so we were pretty stoked.

The second half of this week was dedicated to learning about the marketing of our video portraits via social media. I did not really find this class very interesting as a lot of it was based around twitter. I am not the biggest fan of twitter as I am neither American, nor famous, and find it difficult to attract an audience when platforms such as Instagram, Tumblr, WordPress and Facebook are so much more accessible and relevant in Australia.

Regardless, the person that Louise had speak was extremely informative and was obviously extremely good at what she did. Her information was not necessarily wasted on a lot of us, she was just informing us of information we were all aware of. Having been born into the generation where social media boomed, I feel as though we (as a class) have a better innate ability to operate social media platforms than generations before.
