This weeks class was centred around how the use of lighting can impact your interview. Louise gave us an informative presentation on 3 point lighting, and we then split into groups to set up our lights, tripods and cameras.
People volunteered to be subjects whilst the remaining members of the group set up the lights in order to make sure the subject’s profile was well lit. Not having a whole lot of experience with 3 point lighting, it was interesting to figure out the different intensities and colour temperature in order to balance a scenes lustre.
We then turned to audio. We were given a demonstration as to how to set up and function the Zoom H4N and radio mics. The Zoom H4N is a mono-input audio recorder, meaning its microphone only absorbs sound waves coming from 1 direction. This is good for interviews as it minimises sound from the peripheral. However, when used in combination with radio mics, the Zoom H4N acts as a make-shift mixer, allowing for a much clearer, cleaner sound with minimal background noise.
We were also given a demonstration on using a ‘Sound Sheet’ for our interviews.
