This weeks class focussed on lighting and the importance of lights, particularly when conducting an interview. We all watched a short presentation by Louise on the different kids of lights that were used in the media industry.
There were:
– LED lights
– Fluorescent lights
– Dedo Lights
– Tungsten Lights
We also learnt about the different directions of light, when conducting an interview. There is Key Lighting which is usually at 70-100% brightness, then fill lighting which is at 50% brightness, and backlighting which is usually at 5% brightness. This allows for nice contouring of the subjects features, which leads to a great profile.
We were split into our Artist groups (Fiona, Dusty, Serena and I) and we all set up an LED light and two Dedo lights – we also set up our tripod and cameras.
We then had one member from each group sit on a chair whilst we found our frame and experimented with lighting.
The second half of the week was spent on presenting our Artist pitch. One of Louise’s friends from the media industry came in and gave us some invaluable feedback on our artists. My artist, Simone Slee, is a multi-media artist, with a strong focus on sculpture, and particularly, the abfunction of it.
Abfunction refers to personifying an inanimate object, so that it is no longer inanimate. Slee does this with her sculpture by creating the sculpture in such ways that it is able to interact with the outside world, thus creating a performance.
