The Scene In Cinema Week 1 2/3

Beginning a new studio is always a surprise – because although the studio leaders pitch their studio to you the semester before, it is always left a little bit ambiguous. I did not really know what to expect from this studio, I honestly chose it because I enjoyed cinema and I felt that this would be a more ‘hands-on’ approach to it.

By the end of the semester, I hope to gain a vast amount of both theoretical knowledge and practical experience when it comes to cinematography and filmcraft. I hope to be able to analyse a scene and understand the poignancy that accompanies the decision to execute in the manner that it is. Simultaneously, I want to be able to appreciate the cinematographic decisions of a filmmaker when creating the scenes such as why certain shots are used; why certain camera angles are used; and how certain characters or props within a scene are used in order to create the desired effect.

This semester, I aim to learn a plethora of different technical skills ranging from pre-production to post-production. Contemporaneously, I intend to hone the skills that I have gained from the prior year. I aim to expand my ability to think critically, creatively and laterally in order to become a multi-faceted media practitioner; especially within the film/video/cinema field.

Lastly, I intend to impress myself this semester. I intend to work hard and to flourish as a student and a professional. I intend to take things more seriously whilst still being able to retain the playfulness that accompanied me throughout my first year of this degree. I intend to bond with my fellow classmates and hopefully make friendly connections with them all because, as we all know, we’re all going to be working with each other in the future anyway.
