I feel like I am beginning to really appreciate the effort behind editing. The process doesn’t seem as mechanical as it sounds once you become involved with it. This new appreciation is becoming more and more apparent as we begin to analyse editing in my cinema studies class, directors choose certain editing styles to convey different meanings and tones. An edit is commendable when it is unnoticed, and that is beautiful within itself.
Editing creates meaning in itself, leaving things out can cause more of an effect than leaving them in. It causes the viewer to make connections in their own mind – allowing for a greater understanding of the edited work.
