This scene was based on an excerpt from the film Blue Jasmine (2012)

This scene was particularly interesting to film as my subject had performed the monologue the day prior. I was more careful when filming this scene than any of the others because I felt as though it needed to be more serious, particularly when consulting the script.

I used quick cuts in order to create a disjointed nature throughout the scene in order to emphasise the severity of the dialogue. I also tried experimenting with camera angles in order to accentuate the disjointed nature of the shot. However, although it was my intention to make the scene disjointed and focus on the use of dialogue, I do feel as though it does lack some fluidity. That being said, I feel as though perhaps a re-edit will fix that issue.

I enjoyed filming this scene as I was able to work with another person who fully understood how important the assessment is to me – she took it very seriously and I am eternally grateful to her. My intention within this scene was to do something a bit more ‘obvious’ with dialogue. With my other scenes, I have tried less conventional methods in order to explore dialogue by creating a sense of ambiguity about the scene. However, with this scene, I have decided a more ‘proper’ approach and decided to attempt to film something that accurately represents the original. I have chosen a more serious scene to replicate, and thus, I decided to film it in such a way that (hopefully) paid homage to the original.

Although the scene is rough, I am quite pleased with how it turned out. I was able to correct the colour in Premiere pro and I do believe that it does look aesthetically ‘nice’. However, I will be posting a re-edit of the scene over the weekend in order to fix the fluidity issues I have been experiencing.
