After the filming of the second scene, the process behind devising a 3rd scene began. It began by calling up the person I have acting the scene out and confirming our time on Saturday to do some filming.
Next, I consulted with my subject in regards to the monologue I would like to cover for the scene. We chose a monologue from Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine (2013) as it is from one of my subject’s (Maddie’s) favorite films and she felt confident she would be able to learn it quickly and well.
Thirdly, I discussed location with my subject. I decided on my Parents’ house as the front room has nice lighting in the afternoon.
I am intending on filming this scene on my Canon 6D using both 50mm and 24-105mm focal lengths. This exercise will focus mainly on different camera angles and how the differing coverage can have an overall affect on the tension and feel of the scene.
Here below is the extract from Blue Jasmine:
Clementine: Am I ugly?
Joel: Uh-uh
Clementine: When I was a kid, I thought I was. I can’t believe I’m crying already. Sometimes I think people don’t understand how lonely it is to be a kid, like you don’t matter. So, I’m eight, and I have these toys, these dolls. My favourite is this ugly girl doll who I call clementine, and I keep yelling at her, “You can’t be ugly! Be pretty!”. It’s weird, like if I can transform her, I would magically change, too.
