Over the weekend I had a bit of a think and chat to some of my friends to gain a fresh perspective on my concept. Considering this exhibition is all I’ve been thinking about lately I thought it would be beneficial to talk about it with people who aren’t involved in it.
After the discussions I had with several people, I’ve decided that I will try and link 2 of my sequences together with another 2 through the use of other thematic devices. The thematic devices I’ve decided to use consistently is the use of colour in the scenes where there is more than 1 person present, and the use of black and white when there is only 1 person present.
The hyper-colours I intend to use represent the beauty and intensity of intimacy expressed with another person – I am using bright colours to accurately encapsulate the poignancy, vivacity and excitement of new and existing relationships in different times of one’s life.
I’ve done this by targeting the adolescent mood in the pool sequence and capturing the awkward aspect of intimacy of a first time interaction. I’m going to contrast against this by using people in relationships for one of my other sequence – I’ve already got 2/3 couples lined up for this so it should be interesting to see how it goes. The lovely Dusty has helped me with colourful props in order to continue this thematic approach to my project.
I’ve also decided to do another solo sequence with a female – my dear friend Belinda is helping me with this part and again, I am going to continue my thematic approach of using black and white in the solo scenes. I am doing this to capture a certain mood that we all experience in acts of solo intimacy where it simply our physical self being alone with our mental self – we are one, but two separate entities – the mind and the body. I took this inspiration from re-reading Descartes’ ‘Meditations on First Philosophy’ over the weekend in order to unwind.
