Weekly Reflection

This week was different to others, I’m beginning to enjoy the work and see the relevance in what we’re doing. We’re beginning to learn about more interesting things in our lectorials. We aren’t really talked at anymore, but talked to. We covered the topic of Narrative this week in our media lectorial – the very interesting idea that ‘everything is narrative’ played on my mind a lot. I made the connection between this idea and the idea of semiotics – and how meaning is portrayed through the very structure of a text. Because a text can be virtually anything that conveys meaning and ideas, I’ve decided that I agree that everything is narrative.

We also discussed the possibility of non-narrative – and we were required to give examples of non-narrative devices throughout a short clip we watched in class:

Non-narrative ideas included the fact that there was no real resolution. I would just like to point out that this entire video is all about Birth, Between and Rebirth – It doesn’t really require  a resolution or ‘end’. It’s all a cycle.

I found this week to be extremely interesting and helpful in regards to using narrative as a device in my ‘texts’ group assignment.
