The Story Lab 2016 – Blog Post Week Eleven
This week was a really important week for us in terms of really getting The Barlow Enquiry together.
Something that we probably should have done before everything else was write out a full, time consecutive narrative stating exactly what happened in our story (for our eyes only). This week we finally got around to doing it and I feel like we’re all on the same page in terms of the narrative and where it’s heading. This maybe may have no been such an issue for a more straight forward story with fewer characters and fewer time jumps, but for us, with so many characters and so many situations and time frames, for this assignment to really work well we needed it. Now, we have something to not only submit at the end, but something for each of us to refer back to.
The full narrative has also helped in terms of planning artefacts and evidence pieces. On the google doc we’ve used we’ve added comments as a review option to highlight which parts of the narrative are important for the audience to use to drive the story forward.
This week we also released our facebook page out into the world (which included a lot of “inviting friends”) but nonetheless, it’s out there and circulating around. I have to admit though, I am surprised about just how many of my own friends have been interested in what the project’s about and asking how they can be apart of it.
Additionally, today Aidan also set off around Campus putting up promotional posters to get people interested. A joint effort, Aidan and I complied the posters, and to be honest I’m super happy with how they’re looking. I think they have the perfect amount of information and offer just enough to tease people about what The Barlow Enquiry is all about.
We also elected to put a QR code on our poster, which I’m also pleased about. Most students these days have a QR reader, and being the technology driven youth, I think it’s going to appeal to a lot of people. It also adds a certain twang of professionalism to the whole look.
So far it’s only been a couple of hours, but we’ve already gained a few ‘likes’ and ‘subscriptions’ from people other than our friends. Here’s a look at one of the posters below:
During one of the classes this week we also presented to the class we’re each of us were at in terms of our assignments. I was really impressed with some of the groups, especially the pocket museum group. I loved the visual aspect and was super impressed with their website construction – I thought it was super appealing and I’ll admit, for a slight moment I had a nice panic that ours wasn’t good enough. But I took a moment to think about it, and the plan with our “website” was it wasn’t a website. It was a blog, and it is made to look as though a non-computer expert person could design it. The presentations were a really good insight though, and I’m pretty keen to check out everyone’s work!
