FILM/TV2 – A&R4 – Question One

In the clip provided from Anna Broinowski’s 2007 film, Forbidden Lies, the audio in which can be heard includes;

  • the song at the beginning
  • the ‘tweeting of birds
  • the jongling of chimes
  • car motor
  • walking through sand
  • sand disinegrating
  • money “ching”
  • interviewee’s voice
  • keyboard sounds
  • background music
  • “magical/mystical” chimes
  • camera “snap”
  • heart beating
  • snake

This clip would be a mixture of both “real” and “sourced sounds”. The real sounds would include the interviewee’s voice, and some of the sounds such as when the book’s pages are turned. However, the sourced sounds are those which are the background music, and the sound effects, which add weight to what is being said. For example, when the heart of Jordan is being spoken about, there is a beating of a heart. This wasn’t recorded in real time, but would have been sourced from somewhere on the internet before being overlayed atop of the footage. At this stage of the clips, the atmos track would have been turned down in order for the layered special effects to be better heard. This would have been repeated throughout the clip.
