Week 8 reflection / problems

First week back after mid semester break… don’t let the title deceive you… It wasn’t a break.
Anyway, our first mini K-film is done and dusted, so we’ve moved onto the major stuff.
We’ve gotten ourselves into groups of three, so Monika, Boglarka and I are going to tackle this project together. This weeks class was a brainstorming class, gathering ideas of what we should focus our film on.
Some of our ideas included;

  • food
  • coffee
  • transport
  • animals
  • multi-cultuarlism
  • fashion
  • technology
  • footwear

Finally we arrived at the destination of Luna Park, and gave the class a quick brief over our idea. Most people seemed to generally like the idea, and Seth had a few tips:

  • define what you’re trying to say about luna park
  • what are you really trying to communicate
  • what do you want to say??
  • documentary on Luna Park? historical?
  • writing an essay… how do you make it engaging interesting and complex for the audience?
  • how do you do it in a way the audience doesn’t have to fill in
  • it’s not a PR exercise
  • we’re trying to produce a narrative almost about it
  • well on the way
  • think about what you’re trying to say by visiting it
  • historically they’ve been around – are they struggling in a contemporary sense – when you’ve got rivals that are  much more ahead of the times

So from this we have to decide what type of angle we will be taking.. a historical? Or a personal? Our main issue is not making it out to be a PR stunt, and my concerns are that we will unwillingly and unknowingly fall into this trap. I also worry about how much interest our film will generate – will it even be able to capture an audience? I think our main issue is figuring out what we’re trying to say – what do we even want to say? Will we have a conclusion?
Another aspect that concerns me is the participants – are we going to be filming random theme park people? How many connect forms are we going to need? Would we better focusing on people we know? Or maybe not people at all?
So many questions…
