Technical Development: Editing

As I will be doing the cinematography and helping with the editing I thought it would be useful to continue developing my editing skills in terms of colour grading and colour correction. This will be a main focus in our editing as our mood boards and aim was to have contrasting colours and interesting techniques that we could experiment with. There are so many different tutorials online and I have included one however each individual tutorial similar or more tips.

The important points I gained from this was to ensure that the film has been properly colour corrected before colour grading. Otherwise the colour grading effect will be inconsistent across the film and you need to ensure that the film has been properly shot before changing the overall effect.

What I should be watching out for is during the filming stage. When I am filming I should always be making sure that our set is properly lit and keep communicating with the director and set designer to achieve this. If we ensure that there is enough light than it saves us a lot a lot of stress when we begin the post-production stage. Remembering also that the camera appears much more darker when hitting record therefore I need to keep checking this.

When we are at the editing stage I will need to keep these points from all of the tutorials in mind. I will need to be familiar with the effects section in Premiere Pro 2018 some of the tools that are useful are. By always checking the graphs I can ensure that the shots aren’t over or under exposed, and are colour balanced correctly. Properly white balancing our film during the editing stage is essential to remember so that the colours don’t look off and it looks more polished.
