Media WK 2: Lecture

For Wednesday’s Media 1 lecture, In small groups we were required to spend roughly one hour ‘noticing’, ‘listening’ and ‘recording’ all mediated interactions/communications we encountered.

My group were assigned to go to South Bank. Upon arriving there we noticed straight away that there were many different kinds of media. There were signs about theatre shows and festivals, buskers, logos on buildings, restaurant advertisements, rubbish bin signs, transport advertisements on trains and helicopters, music, and much more. We took heaps of photos, videos and sounds for this exercise. From my observations I found that there was a lot more media than I once thought. It became much clearer when I started to notice and look for these things that would have gone unnoticed before, and that were unnoticed by many of the people walking, eating and riding bikes through. I think there were not as many people on their phones compared to other places but the multiple amounts of media that surrounded them ensured that they were still bombarded with these messages in a sort of subtle way.
