Being at RRR radio station headquarters in Brunswick was exciting. We got into our assigned groups in the performance hall and started to brainstorm ideas about what we wanted our show to contain, cover and cultivate. The girls in my group and I got along really well, which is comforting as conducting a radio show requires communication and understanding in order to be successful. We came up with ideas such as getting to rival meme pages to be on the show and discuss their rivalry, along with my idea to interview two friends of mine who started a buy and sell fashion page on facebook.
After the groups congregated to discuss their show ideas we were given a tour of the station. We were shown the live performance room, the hang out areas, the kitchen, the record room, the offices and most importantly the studios. There were around 5 studios in total, where the shows are recorded and distributed live. At this time we could see one of the shows was currently running live; it was fascinating to momentarily observe the way the hosts record and control the show. From the brief moment I was observing them, I saw them deal with the paneling, the music, hosting and the many other tasks they had to follow. It was great to watch professionals work.
After that we had a session with one of the workers at the station (his name slips my mind unfortunately) who took us through all the panelling, computer programmes and tech gadgets, informing us on how to use them to run a show. Loading sponsors and loading tracks on the CD player seemed easy enough to me, but the panelling was and still is very confusing to me. I know it takes many times practising in order to be efficient at panelling, but it is still very daunting to me.
Being at RRR for the first time was extremely exciting and I’m ready to get back there again!
