Sunday 10th December, Shoot day #2:

Obstacles

In contrast to our first shoot day, the 10th of December was a sunny but cold day (don’t even know how that works, thanks Melbourne!). This meant that the pool water was chilly, but thankfully our cast didn’t have a problem with ignoring that for the sake of the shoot. Our next problem came in the form of an unreliable GoPro, which despite insane amounts of effort, just wouldn’t co-operate. This meant that the underwater shots had to be abandoned, and although they were not essential to the final product, I was still disappointed that we wouldn’t be able to add them in as a visually fun touch. Almost all of the cast were late, pushing our schedule back two hours. Unfortunately only Amber was able to show up to the shoot, which meant that we couldn’t film the seperate scenes we had planned to do as we both needed to direct and shoot. Luckily, the leads agreed to stay later and we were able to film the vital exterior shots after we wrapped the pool party scene, so in the end this wasn’t a problem.

Discoveries

Once again, the help we had was amazing. Due to not being able to hire the RMIT equipment on a weekend, I called in a few favours and my friends delivered. Our extra help brought with them their own tripods, cameras, lights and enthusiasm. Jeremy was happy to jump in as the getaway driver (being the only licensed driver among us!) and Adrian stepped in as the detective when we heard the original actor wasn’t going to make it. Despite the cold, I got in the pool and acted as the motor for the inflatable flamingo that Huw was sitting on as we had trouble with it moving with the wind. Hopefully I am not visible in the final cut, but I am holding my breath underneath that flamingo in almost every shot!
