Media 6: Five Minds For The Future

This week’s reading Minds Viewed Globally, Horward Garder discusses the five kinds of minds that we should be possessed such as the disciplinary mind, synthesizing mind, creating mind, respectful mind, and ethical mind. Garder research shows that these five minds should be cultivated at a young age in the education system so that once they enter the real world they will know what to expect and that they may lead a better future.

The disciplined mind is someone who is focus on the things they do.

The synthesizing minds take in information from unlikely sources and from understanding it, distributes the information to other people.

The creating mind is those with creative ideas and challenges oneself to think outside of the box.

The respectful mind is respecting everyone regardless of differences such as race, individuality and so on.

The ethical mind reflects on how one’s work, needs and desires. It then analyses how these people can further improve themselves.

However, globalization and technology have made it harder to instill these five minds. This is because we have depended on technology to solve our problems just to keep up with globalization. These five minds are necessary because if a person doesn’t have any one of these elements they will not be able to succeed, overwhelmed by information, no original creativity, will be disrespected and will be irresponsible. Garder, emphasizes again that education should teach the youngsters these five minds so that the world would be a better place for us.

I agree with Garder on the five minds that will make us a better person and society. We are all imperfect and most of us do not have the complete five minds but it is still important to teach and learn what the five minds are about. At least learning these values will help us at least change how we think and do things. Hopefully, in the future, the five minds will be part of the learning system for the next generation.
