Why is it important for media practitioners to develop software literacies?

With the rapid development of today’s new media industry, software has becoming the important way for everyone. In many ways, software is more important than books because it allows more people to communicate with each through the website or a single APP, this will be a better and easiest way for all people.

However, media practitioners must have software literacy. Media literacy education provided tools to help more people critically analyse the information which also can provide a good opportunity for learners to expand their media experience, help them develop creative skills to produce their own media messages. (Mateas, n.d.) Almost all media works requires software. From the beginning of video shooting to the later editing, both of them requires to use software to do with that.

Software helps people integrate and organise their daily lives as well as discovering the future applications. In many ways, software helps people to understand all kinds of different kinds of culture values.

What is your understanding of the concept of ‘affordances?

I think Affordance is a good designer makes sure that appropriate action is perceptible and inappropriate action is invisible. (UX Design Glossary: How to Use Affordances in User Interfaces, 2020). It is an objective which shows the properties also shows users actions which they can take. Users should be able to perceive visibility regardless of how these items are used. Affordances can be anywhere. Design a best affordance can be a way to minimize or prevent user errors and cognitive fiction, a way to understand the users better through UX research. (What are Affordances?, 2020)

Creating a good program affordance will provide users a good experience.

How would you define Instagram?

Instagram allows users is a social media platform and online sharing application which people could share their photos, videos, stories through there. It creates a window for the exchange of different cultures and information.

In Instagram, people could make friends there, comment photos as well as chatting with each other. Instagram is an application which can be used in several devices including Apple iOS, Android and Windows Phone to share the free pictures and videos, users could uploaded there and shared friends which they selected friends to share, they also could be able to like or comment their posts which they liked. Everyone who over 13 years old could be able to register email address in order to create an account.(Ting, H. 2015)

According to researches, as Instagram grew from 30 million users to 300 million from 2012 to the end of 2014, it has become a valuable advertising and marketing medium.

Over time, the strategy for creating and running a successful Instagram account has been described in countless articles, blog posts and videos. Instagram as a social media platform, gives much more convenience for people’s everyday life. Instagram is an innovative product that combines a programming language with a visual aesthetic. (Leaver, T. 2020)

I think the most surprising function is it can directly through there to edit and choose size, you can choose your favourite filter and frame over there, do not to use ‘VSCO’, ‘SNAPSEED’, ‘FACETUNE’ so on, to edit photos them transfer to Instagram.

How would you define online video in this context?

Online video is online streaming, watching video clips, tv shows, movies and other streaming from the internet. There have been several parts of video hosting services in the world, such as YouTube, Twitch, Youku so on.

As the development of new media in this society, online video provides a good opportunity for production as well as dissemination of video. People can access all kind of videos faster which greatly improves communication.
