This final assessment is finally over and I can enjoy my holiday in peace (thank goodness for that). But, I have to write a reflection, so here goes.
Firstly, the positives. Brian randomly assigned our group members so that we would work with people we wouldn’t pick and that’s a good thing because we’d get to meet other people outside the regular mix. It was easy to work with Lana, Ben & Weili because we all communicated and listened to one another well. What really worked well in our final mix of the audio work was the breadth of audio styles we used to make the assignment as enjoyable as possible.
Throughout the course of making this assignment my group were constantly evolving what we wanted it to focus on. As a group we decided pretty quickly we wanted to focus how Game of Thrones has captured the attentions of viewers worldwide. Initially, we categorised our parts into gender, race, age and interest group. But we realised that we didn’t get much information from that so we changed it primarily gender.
We were lucky enough to be able to use the radio booth which had 4 mics in Building 9 and that was good because we could all speak and interject whenever we wanted without worrying if we could be hear clearly through the microphones. We took 3 takes to get the right recording because the first one sounded as if we were too chill and the second one was tensed, and the third one was the perfect medium of both chill and serious.
I think the one negative we had was although yes, the critique from Catherine was helpful, we came out of it somewhat shook because we did not expect her comments to be harsh? Initially, we wanted it to be a documentary style but from what we told her, she was not impressed because our rough cut didn’t have the main body. But we learnt from mistakes and improved on it.
Overall, I thought this assignment turned out really well. As a group, we meshed quickly and came up with an idea that we were happy with and were able to execute it the way we wanted in the end. As a group we were all on the same page throughout as we wanted this to be a really enjoyable assignment. We wanted the final audio product to be like a discussion/conversational piece which I felt like we accomplished.
