Prior to this class, I had limited to zero knowledge/background to comedy news shows (or maybe I have seen a couple but not known it was a proper comedy news show).
Looking at Last Week Tonight with Hohn Oliver- President- Elect Trump, it’s clear that John Oliver has taken the fact that Donald Trump was crowned the President Of The United States aka POTUS. It’s clear that he’s rather salty towards it through his expressions and gestures yet he makes it comical and enjoyable for viewers, which sheds a light on this particular topic. Prior to this, I had only seen a snippet of John Oliver talking about Fifty Shades of Grey and different countries cinema ratings for them. Initially, I found his comments and views actually hilarious and quite ruthless.
John Oliver has his own “aesthetic” that makes him different from other types comedy news presenters. Oliver’s humour can come across as dark humour (or as I know, English humour because we Brits fancy dark humour) because it doesn’t appeal to normally to those but that’s just him as a presenter. He uses a lot of visuals to reiterate his opinions and makes it more entertaining instead of him just speaking for the entire time. Honestly, I just think he’s expressing his thoughts and he stays true to himself when presenting and giving his views.
