This week’s lecture focused on streaming services, mainly Netflix with guest speak, Ramon Lobato. Ramon raised an interesting question during the lecture, which asked us to think of the last time we actually watched something on TV instead of streaming it online via YouTube or other streaming platforms. I paused for a moment and actually had to think hard about the last time I did that. My answer: back in April when I went back to my home country during the Easter mid term, my family gathered around the living room & watched a movie on HBO together and a match from BPL.
Take watching sports on television as an example. With the raise of streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon etc., I think these companies would expand and branch off to live sports events to further their reach into the television area, but it might be an issue having such large companies own such a vast percentage of the content.
