The aim of this clip was to create a self-portrait and reflect my identity. To do so I had to have a clear identity and I wasn’t sure I had this figured out yet. This is why I chose what was a more obvious approach and themed it ‘A day in the life of me’. I tried to achieve the most accurate reflection of who I am, and I did so by editing the things that I believe define me most (e.g. the beach, cooking and food, home, exercise etc.). I presented these things in obvious ways and edited it in the flow of my ‘typical day’. This ensured that even if it were viewed quickly one would still get an essence of who I am.
By capturing snippets of my daily routines, I allowed the viewer to see real aspects of my daily life and use their imagination to explore who/what I was not showing. This allows them to think about all the things in between the gaps. It was the things that were not shown that also define me (e.g. The small mistakes in the guitar playing- showing my passion for music while still showing I have not yet mastered the skill.).
I chose to overlap voice overs with related images, such as a voice over of cooking with my dad and brother (expressing passion for food and my Greek heritage) while displaying an image of a meal I had cooked followed by my jogging (suggesting that I had to work off what I had eaten. It also expressed my focus on fitness). This worked really well as it had a constant flow and a continuity, whereas I found it difficult to incorporate the still images into a moving picture. This was one of my least successful parts of the clip, but I tried to overcome this by adding in a key aspect of me (trying to figure out my identity) through text (‘fitting in everywhere and nowhere’). I feel that this created the link in the less successful part of the clip.
