Networked media- Tag! your it!

The last activity we did in today’s network media class was on the subject of “tagging” and its role within social media and blogs. Tagging is used to make it easier for users to find specific things they are looking for in social media and creates pathways between broader subjects and individuals works.

Some examples of how tagging is used are how you are able to “hashtag” or “@” something /someone on twitter or how you can tag you friend/ locations in pictures you post on Facebook. Creating these tags builds avenues to help users navigate these sites better,  making their online experience more streamlined and enjoyable

On our blog’s we can tag posts via the tag box in the lower right-hand side of the screen when we are in a new post/editing an existing post. We were also told about a plug-in called “tag cloud” which we can apply to our blogs so that all of our tags appear on the side sidebar of our blogs in a clump showing users our most used tags and instantly telling them about the sorts of things that I would be posting about, helping them figure out if what I’m posting about will interest them.
