Network media- online documentation: day 7

I was still feeling a bit under the weather today, so I didn’t end up going to school or doing much in the way of work so the list is a bit short.

Watched videos from my subscription feed on Youtube

Looked up the address and location of a medical clinic on google logged into my media factory account and did some blog posting for school

Logged into my media factory account and did some blog posting for school

Used the PTV app to plan out my route to the medical clinic

Scrolled through my Twitter feed a few times while at home watching other things and again on the tram

Sent a Snapchat of a weird poster in the doctor’s office to a few friends

Talked to my friend through Facebook messenger throughout the day

Listened to a podcast on the way home from the clinic

Watched some more videos from my subscription feed on Youtube

Did some more posting to my media factory blog for school

Looking back over all the posts I have done over the last week it has become even more blindingly obvious that I don’t really use the internet for its social capabilities and just use it almost exclusively for entertainment or information. The small amount of social interaction I do online is with only a small group of people who I regularly talk to.

Network media- Online documentation: Day 6

Had class today so most of the things I did online today were educational until I got sick later that afternoon. My online presence was heavily diminished my being ill since I couldn’t really concentrate on anything properly.

Downloaded and began listening to Harry Potter and the order of the phoenix though the audible app on my phone (I have been listening to the series since around January)

Look up actors and shows on IMDB as my teacher talked about them

logged on to blackboard to find readings and a link to the lecture I missed last Friday

Used the Echo 360 page to view the lecture that was mentioned previously

Looked up a video that the lecturer tried to show but failed due to technical difficulties on Youtube

Looked at the readings for my other classes on the Network media and Old’s cool blogs.

Watched videos from my subscription feed on youtube

Used facebook messenger to talk to my friend in Ballarat

Scrolled through my twitter feed while bored

Most of my morning consisted of an educational use of the internet, eventually devolving into background noise to try and sleep or to take my mind off the pain in my stomach.

While on Youtube, I will Find myself going back and watching videos again due to youtube having a “watch it again” tab on the front page if you are signed in. I have only really started doing it lately as a way to avoid doing work since it’s the first thing I see when I open up the Youtube page.

Network media-Online documentation: day 5

Home alone today so varying amounts of online usage.

listened to a podcast on my early morning trek to obtain caffeine

Watched videos from my subscription feed on youtube

Scrolled my twitter feed

listened to an album on youtube as I washed the dishes

Looked on Soundcloud for copyright free music (didn’t find what I needed)

Looked on Newgrounds for copyright free music (didn’t find what I was looking for there either)

Found a playlist on Youtube dedicated to copyright free music (found what I was looking for) and downloaded the song for a project I was working on for school.

Streamed the latest episode of Samurai Jack from a dubious website since it hasn’t been released in Australia yet and I’m not sure when it will be.

Used facebook messenger to talk to my friend in Ballarat

listened to a podcast while playing a game in the evening

Again, didn’t feel the need to publish any of the goings on in my day to the world or my friends. Nothing I did was that interesting so nothing qualified as interesting enough to post.

At this point, I’m starting to realise that Youtube is the main site I use online. I not only use it for entertainment but like a secondary search engine for educational and creative purposes. Most of the time if I can’t find something I’m looking for on google I will search Youtube, and lots of times google will direct me to Youtube for an answer anyway.

Like most of the days prior to this one, most of my online usage has been for entertainment, either something that I will direct my focus on entirely or something to fill in space in the background as I do other things. I feel like I do this for efficiency, that now I have this idea that if I’m not taking advantage of the fact that I can listen to something as I do something else like clean or ride the tram that I am wasting that time.

Network media- online documentation: day 4

Monday was a pretty sparse day when it came to my online usage.

Scrolled through my feed on twitter and looked at a few news articles from SBS and ABC

Watched some videos from my subscriptions on youtube

listened to a podcast while cleaning up around the house/ playing  a video game

Looked up walkthroughs for the video game I was playing

Used Facebook to chat with a friend  whilst I played my game

Watched some more videos from my subscription feed on Youtube

Like most days, I tend to do very little authoring of content online. I use facebook messenger to talk to a few of my friends because that’s the platform they prefer and I wouldn’t be able to talk to them otherwise. I have a similar situation with my housemates where one of us doesn’t have facebook and so all of the goings on with the house is put on there.

As I continue to post these updates, I notice that I don’t utilise online media much in the way as a lot of the people I know. Most of the time, the main way my friends communicate is by sharing things like videos, gifs and memes to each other online through social media platforms like facebook, snap chat and Instagram in addition to the written word. Me on the other hand, I guess I don’t engage with the full social capabilities of most online platforms. I don’t think everything I think/watch or make is worth sharing online.

Network media- Online documentation: day 3

Today was the last day I had to work on my projects for my media studio, so I used most of it again to study and write. But since the projects had to be posted on my media factory blog I finally got to do some content authoring (Yay).

Listened to a Podcast through the podcast app on my morning walk.

Scrolled facebook and twitter feeds for a few minutes before I began working as a way to procrastinate.

Used google scholar to research for my projects.

Used RMIT library site to research for my projects.

Used the RMIT easy citation guide to help with my citations.

listened to various artists and bands through Youtube as I worked.

Watched videos from my youtube subscription feed as a break from work.

Used i-message at various points to talk to a classmate about how they were doing with the project.

Projected a friends Youtube video in my backyard and took photos of the process as part of my project.

Uploaded part of my project to sound cloud and then embedded a link into a post on my media factory blog.

Posted a series of photos on my media factory blog as part of my project.

Took a photo of a sketch I did with my phone and used air drop to send it to my laptop. I then posted the sketch in a post on my media factory blog.

Watched videos from my subscription feed on Youtube.

Sent a Snapchat of something I thought was funny in a video game at like, 1 in the morning while drunk.

Have things to talk about in the authoring part of this post now. With the photo posts, I made on my media blog I just uploaded the photos I had taken and posted them straight into the post. For the audio post, I had to upload it to sound cloud so I could embed it into a post on my media factory blog (I first, had to make a Soundcloud account of course).

Now Most of the stuff I posted/viewed that day was for educational proposes since all the content I posted was for school.  The snapchat was the outlier for today as I very rarely do any online publishing. The reason I sent it was because I was so impressed with the fact that they game I was playing still had the capability to keep surprising me with new things after so many hours of playing it and I just wanted to share that with a few of my friends who would appreciate it as much as I would.

Network media- Online documentation: day 2

Saturday I spent most of the day doing assessment work for my media studio so I didn’t really have an extensive list of online interactions.

Listened to a podcast through the podcast app on my morning walk.

Used google scholar to find information on the assignment I was doing.

Used the RMIT library site to find information on the assignment I was doing.

listened to a stream of low-fi hip hop on youtube as I worked.

Watched various videos on youtube, some interviews with people for the project I was working on and a few videos in my subscription feed.

Used facebook messenger to chat with my friend in Ballarat.

Scrolled facebook and twitter for a few minutes while cooking lunch

More Google scholar and RMIT library research

Read my emails through the g-mail app on my phone

Listened to more podcasts through the podcast app as I went to bed

Again not a super content authoring day for me as usual, not really my thing. the most Interaction I had was with my friend through facebook messenger.

Again, I used online media for both educational and entertainment purposes. Youtube seems to be my go-to site for most of my entertainment (videos and background working music) and a little of my educational needs (like the interviews I watched for my project).

Network media- Online documentation: day 1

Friday- Day 1

So far today  I have watched a Youtube video this morning while getting ready for school. the Video was called ‘Moster factory’ and it is a show where the two hosts play a game and use the in-game character creator make the most bizarre/horrific character they can. On my way out the door, I quickly used the NAB banking app on my phone to see if I had enough money today to buy food later. On my journey to school I listened to a podcast I downloaded while I was getting ready called ‘The adventure zone’, a DnD podcast, that you could also argue is an improv comedy radio play radio play. Once I got to school I began searching for scholarly articles though both the RMIT library site and Google scholar to use for a project due at the end of the week.

When it comes to how I used the content online I generally don’t author, publish or distribute content online. I mainly just consume media online for entertainment or for educational purposes. The most I have posted online in the last six months has been a direct result of being in two classes that require me to post content on my school blog

The only thing that I used this morning that doesn’t fall under one of those categories is the NAB online banking, which I would categorize under an online utility to help simplify my day.
