In this week’s tute we talked about our assessments for RWAV. It includes 1 documentary and 1 radio show for the 3RRR. Details of the assessments including requirements, suggestions on choosing topics and interviewees:
- Diversity of topics, mix of story: social issues, arts, …
- No music interview.
- 1 week prior to show: email a draft run-sheet. Contact Elizabeth about the interview topics before starting working on it: what the ideas and angles of the interview to see if it’s suitable for 3R. Not approved= get rid of the story.
- Think critically about the interviewee; is he the best person to interview?
- Find the topic that interests the audience.
- For academic topics: don’t just find professors from RMIT. Get out of the box
Questions:
- Why is the topic interesting to the audience?
- What thing can you add in the story?
Music has to be relevant to the 3R, check out the music shows in 3R. Preferably Aussie music and Melbourne band
- Listen to a mix of 9-12 talk shows: Mon, Wednesday (politics, social rights, v…v..) and the ones listed on the blog.
- Interview length: 8mins, should prepare questions, do a lot of research about them, ask questions: who what where when why. Keep things very conversational not just Q-A
- Go to the best experts, not just focus on your relationships.
- Closing and opening is important: ‘We are with X in the 3R today,…,
- Conflict of interest- be aware of.
- Have your last song finishes at exactly 1pm.
