This week (week 5) symposium

This week symposium gives out an interesting aspect of network literacy, which refers to the fact whether it should be taught as an academic subject or not. While Jason and Elliot support the argument that network literacy should not be seen as a teaching subject, however, i’m quite with Adrian to against their opinion. Yes, network literacy should be taught academically. Why?

According to Lisha, network literacy relates to the understanding of the use of network. It is not just simply how we use it, but to understand how the whole networked media system works. The fact that we use the Internet everyday does not equal to the point that we understand how the Internet operates. Networked media a complicated system that each component interrelates to each other. Thus, we need to learn about network literacy in order to obtain knowledge of the system. Plus, isn’t this course an academic subject that educate us about networked media and as also network literacy?
