The Story Lab – Five Part Story

>>Adaption of our simple story conceived in class.<<

A small, 10-year-old girl named Fiona, falls into a deep sleep one night. She has a wildly vivid dream that her mother will die. Shaken and worried she goes back to sleep, and this time she dreams of a skyscraper downtown exploding in a ball of flames and crumbling to the ground.
The very next morning she wakes up, perplexed, but does not say anything to her mother. She says goodbye as her mother leaves for work and she goes to catch the bus to school.

In afternoon when Fiona comes home from school and turns on the TV, she is horrified to see a breaking news report covering the explosion of a major building in the city; the devastation killing all occupants of the building. She recognises the building, and realises that this is where her mother works. She is riddled with anger, guilt and sadness for the loss of her mother, and the fact that she knew about what would happen but failed to alert her mother or anyone else of the catastrophe that would occur. Fiona then realises that she has a unique gift of foresight and vows to use her newfound power to help people in honour of her deceased mother.

The next time Fiona falls asleep, she dreams that she is on her school bus in the morning with all her friends laughing and having a wonderful time. As the bus drives across a bridge, a semi-trailer suddenly travelling way too fast suddenly smashes into the school bus leaving no survivors. Fiona wakes up, sweating and shaken, but she is filled with a sense of purpose and knows what to do.

The next morning she gets to the bus stop early. When the school bus arrives, Fiona starts to get on the bus, but then pleads with the driver to wait for her as she says she has forgotten her lunchbox in her house just down the street. The old bus driver agrees to wait for a few minutes, and Fiona takes her time, ensuring the bus is sufficiently delayed.

As the bus is driving towards the bridge, Fiona looks out the window to see the semi-trailer crash into a small car on the bridge, causing a chain reaction of crashes and a big traffic jam. The school bus and all its passengers are fine and unharmed, but Fiona realises that she still has a lot to learn before she can interpret her power of foresight. She was able to change her vision and save her schoolmates, but there was still a fatal crash on the same bridge. This sparks a sense of protectiveness in her for her city and its inhabitants, and she makes herself a promise that she will strengthen her abilities to save more people.
