New Innovations

I love the prospect of a new toy. If I see a link to a new iPhone or some new innovation of a wristwatch that can make video calls via hologram, then it instantly has my attention. After reading what Bruce Sterling had to say on the concept of ‘Design Fiction’, I completely agree that it is productive to the industry of technological advancements for these fakes and fantastical designs to spur on actual development of new devices. It makes sense for companies to try and emulate designs they see in the mainstream media, be it from unrealistic picture on the Internet or from the latest Hollywood blockbuster. I certainly know that after seeing a film that incorporates a interesting device as a prop I am intrigued as to if such an artefact will ever see the light of day and if so, how much would it cost, would it be effective and where can I get one?

At any rate, I think the act of creating and innovating inspires more progression we constantly shift from one new idea to the next. The immense collection of designs and ideas that are produced today are refined and sculpted into the products we will use tomorrow.
