Completing our first exercise in sound recording with a proper mixer and boom mic was really insightful. I found it really useful as I’ve never been properly shown how to use the mixer and program it to get the best results. I am still trying to master the coil of the cables with my housemates guitar lead at home, which is good practice nonetheless but in reflection and hindsight I feel as if we should of been taught this in a first year class, yet here I am in third year learning these skills.
Despite this using the mixer, learning how to use the boom mic and the channels that can be used and how to utilise it was a really good exercise in sound. I was paired up with Patrick from memory and we did the exercise in the Media portal but I don’t think we did it 100% correctly. As we just held the microphone in between the two of us instead of directly pointing the microphone at the person speaking. At the time I felt this way but I didn’t speak up and say anything which I realise in hindsight is something I should of done. Speaking up is something I’ve struggled with and am trying to work on as I grow into my media course and I hope I can work on this going into my call to action video.
