A lot of work went into creating the proof of concept and the pitch for Virulence however this ultimately paid off with the final product which I feel as a group we are all collectively happy with. When we were shooting Virulence I was acting as our protagonist Naya, so I didn’t have much to do with filming or cinematography on the day, I just followed instructions as I was directed. An advantage of me acting in the proof of concept is that it gave my group valuable insight into the time constraints we will need to stick to for filming, with the actor wearing the face mask for a prolonged period of time. With most of my work on the project being the editing, the main problem that I encountered was trying to establish a rhythm without having music to edit too or dialogue to follow. This is because Isaac originally wanted to do his own sound design for the pitch so I had to work with sample music that I felt fitted with the mood and tone of the project. Colour grading the project was difficult as well, trying to maintain the same colouring whilst also dealing with the indoor and outdoor shots made it complicated. Especially with the two opening shots not being white balanced correctly and trying to create a dark and somber mood/atmosphere.
I believe our pitch to the class and panel went really well, it was well structured and had a good flow. We tried to focus on making our pitch more conversational and real instead of structured off notes, which I think ultimately paid off as we were able to connect with the panel and the class better. Another thing we tried to avoid was getting caught up discussing the story world and its parameters and keep to the point to not confuse the panel. This helped us keep time as well as present a clear and concise pitch on our project Virulence.
