Week Five – Sketch

Summary

The story follows a 16-year-old boy who signs up to be trained as a leader for the growing Silent Preachers cult, that rules over his society. Eager to learn and become a part of the growing movement and make his family proud he believes that what happens in their weekly one-on-one sessions with camp leaders is a part of his learning, and is okay in the name of God. After one boy leaves the camp he begins to try and exploit Silent Preachers for what it really is.

Reflection

At first I was a bit apprehensive with this idea, mainly because it kept changing and there were certain things within the plot and that made me overthink the idea. However the main concept I want to get across within this script or scene, is the corrupt silence that the Catholic Church has maintained over multiple decades. It stems from my own personal loss of identity within the Catholic Church after the conviction of George Pell and reading more into the issues with the apparatus of the church, more so than the religion that Catholicism represents.

I feel like this would be an interesting idea to explore however I definitely feel like it needs more development in the way conflict will make the story interesting. I believe I could I could take it down a few different paths, but I think because I didn’t pitch it in class it probably won’t be considered which is cool. But its definitely something I feel like I might explore in my own time.
